Chic Chignon

I came across this still of Faye Dunaway from 'The Thomas Crown Affair' (1968). I really need to watch this original version. Her hair is so gorgeous. It’s sexy and sophisticated all at once. I’m going to attempt to recreate it myself, just not sure what to wear with it, hmm...

More stripes!

Banana Republic blouse, jeans, and earrings, (on second thought perhaps it was more of a Banana Republic day rather than a striped one!), vintage scarf, vintage necklace, Nine West heels

I wore this out on Sunday afternoon, which included a stop at Ahab Bowen, Buffalo Exchange, and Half Price Books- some of my favorite places here in Dallas. If you live in the area, I highly recommend a trip to the aforementioned. I’ll post my finds later. :)

I love this look. There’s just something about accessories that polish and complete an ensemble. The scarf! the jewels! the bag! oh my! Each piece adds a new dimension to the look.

I love scarves! The ultimate scarf is of course the Hermès. So dreamy. So chic. One day, I will have one, but for now, my vintage finds are just dandy.

SOS: Stripey on Stripey

XXI clothing, Banana Republic earrings, vintage necklace, BCBG heels

Apparently, I was all about the stripes this weekend. On Saturday, I wore this outfit to go out and I think the stripe on stripe combination is cute, fresh, and fun. Speaking of stripes, I’ve yet to post about the Givenchy stripes I’d die to get my hands on… soon, I promise. Oh, and I recently purchased the lovely earrings at Banana (at a deep discount too!), they are modern and vintage feeling at the same time, which pretty much sums up my style.

Here’s how I went from day to night: I swapped my jeans for the skirt, traded my flats for heels, and added some defined red lips. Va va voom.

Casual Equestrian

Navy jacket, Luella for Target White Button-up, dear jeans, Ben Sherman leather belt, Banana Republic leather riding boots.

This is an easy outfit that looks pulled together, and it’s appropriate for various activities. It’s super comfortable and great for walking indoors or out (as opposed to heels, which my boyfriend is grateful for I’m sure).

What a catch!

I picked up these lovelies a few days ago at a thrift store ($11.90 = such a find!). They remind me of the pair I wanted at Anthropologie a few months ago… They were more of a silver tone with rhinestones all over. They were also not in my price range (around $130-$150 if I remember correctly). So, I’m glad I scoured the thrift store and caught (get it? :P ) these beauties. I’m actually curious where they hailed from originally; they’re such great quality. I’m thrilled with these little fishies.

Seasonal Art

The weather has been completely cray this year: 75 degrees one day and snow the next. Perhaps this explains why I’ve gotten sick (sorry for my lack of posts). Here are a few pictures from the snow days (we see so few here in Texas).
We couldn’t believe how fast and how much snow we received! I just love blankets of snow. Though, I wish I weren’t so accustomed to the year round beautiful weather in L.A. I blame you California, for my lack of ability to stand the cold these days.

fumblin' foe and bcbg, oh how I adore thee.

I have been digging these lovelies since I spotted them awhile ago. I went outside for a brisk walk today and was inspired by the green grass, children playing, and glorious sunshine. I know we’re amidst fall fashion week, but I just can’t help myself.

I am cray-cray for the red heart appliqué dress and sea foam green dress in particular. I have an anniversary fast approaching and wish I had this sweet heart dress. So cute! It reminds me of my Fumblin’ Foe black circle appliqué dress that I wore to my boyfriend’s Champagne Ball before Christmas (I felt like a million bucks). The sea foam dress is cool because it’s a little unexpected. It looks almost like a skirt and blouse, and the skirt has this brilliant crisscross, woven design. The pink has a sexy sheer peek-a-boo at the neckline, and has an updated Audrey Hepburn feel to it. And the taupe rose strapless woven mini dress is simply killah. Spring, please run to my doorstep! I’ve missed you.

Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 Collection

Another simple collage showcasing my favorites, this time from the Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 Collection. Hello, lover.

The coats! the gloves! the gowns! oh my!
When first viewing this collection, my first thought was Mad Men meets Parisian Barbie. From the bouncy 50s style ponytail and pale pink lip to the flat bows on the heels and circle skirts. The collection was so rich in texture. I especially adore the leather gloves paired with the gorgeous ball gowns. I also love how the collection played up the hourglass silhouette (thus, the use of certain Victoria’s Secret models). Since I am a fashion-conscious modern woman with curves, I appreciate this collection all the more. Simply lovely. Given the right occasion (heck, even just to wear around my house) I would giddily don one of the chic ensembles above.

Christian Dior Fall 2010

Here is a (simple) collage I put together to feature the Christian Dior Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear Collection.
These are my favorites from the equestrian themed show.

I love contradictions (in regards to fashion). By this I mean masculine vs. feminine, structured vs. flowy, romantic vs. utilitarian. Love, love, and love. You get the idea.
These looks in particular I find very appealing. The dresses are purely divine, whether they feature ruffles, draping, or embellishments. The jackets are sublime with their perfect tailoring, unique design (hello, mr. double lapel) and choice of material. Don’t even get me started on the thigh high boots. Did you see my last post? I die over these.

I should probably mention that in addition to contradictions, I also love collages! :)

Date Night Outfit

Marc Jacobs blouse, bebe skirt, Miu Miu leather over-the-knee boots, vintage gold necklace (a gift from my mother), vintage clutch

I wore this out with my boyfriend the other night. I really like this blouse; you can’t tell from this picture, but the back is especially cute. I think the skirt is interesting with the lace and bandage detail. And I am in love with these boots! They are comfortable and versatile. You can wear them all the way over the knee, scrunch them, or fold them. They are quite a dream. If only I had a black pair…

Fashion at the Oscars

Oscar. Fashion. Here are some of my faves from the 2010 Academy Awards. In no particular order:

Charlize Theron in Christian Dior. She looks like a movie star… all the time. This woman just does it for me fashion-wise. The dress could have easily gone the Madonna impersonation or costume-y route with the rosettes placed as they were on the bust, but Galliano is a master of his craft and it’s a hit. The silhouette is lovely. The lilac two-tone satin is subtle in its variance, but is perfection. Her on-going collaboration with Galliano has got to be one of the most brilliant.

Next up, we have Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta. Totally gorgeous. This dress is exquisite with all of the bead and sequin work; not to mention the way it falls. Her hair, makeup, and jewelry complement the look beautifully; less is definitely more when you have such an elaborate gown.

Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab. Romantic. She looks like a breath of fresh air. The gown is marvelous, with a beautifully pleated and woven bodice, sweetheart neckline, and flowing skirt. This is a great example of how to pull off a head-to-toe print and not be overwhelming. Her hair is simple as is the makeup, not too much or too little, but just right.

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa. Breathtaking. She looks as if she was dipped in liquid metal, and I honestly mean that in the best possible way. Luminous loveliness. Her hair and that pink lipstick are so pretty. The lace is sweet and the gown is sexy. She looks statuesque and goddess-like.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Chanel. Chic. The light yellow silk dress with silver embroidery at the neckline. I also like the dress paired with the stack of bangles, it was a wise choice. A more unusual look, but it worked. Reminds me of Jackie O for some reason.

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy. Completely cray, but I love it. This ombre design with the glittering bodice and tulle sculptured skirt might have been a recipe for an over-the-top disaster, but it is killer. It’s a design we’ve yet to see, and I reallly like it. This is a lot of look, but she pulls it off magnificently.

Kate Winslet in Yves Saint Laurent. She can do no wrong. This has a futuristic feel, but it’s a classic silhouette. The bodice and pleating are elegant and modern especially in this silver finish. The bodice also reminds me of a piece of armor, which I happen to like.

Carey Mulligan in Prada. I adore this little number. It’s adorned with Swarovski crystal flowers and charms in the shape of tiny forks, knives, and scissors. So cool. I like the unexpected details.

A Tribute

Here is one of my long-time obsessions… wait for it…
The Yves Saint Laurent Tribtoo pump! And, I’m in love. Don’t worry boyfriend, you’re still my favorite. This YSL heel is so versatile. It looks fantastic worn alone or with tights, with jeans or dresses, making it the ultimate year round staple for any woman. The hidden platform allows for extra height while also giving comfort and support. Not to mention the skinny heel: perfection. I’d gladly sport them tomorrow… if only I had a pair, or ten. Sigh...

Dust Furniture
Inspired by the upcoming release of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, I thought I would share these pieces I stumbled upon… creatively functional furniture by craft artist Vincent Thomas Leman. I’d like to have a piece from his Dust Furniture collection, and the name would be a great reminder, to indeed, dust furniture.

top it off with a bow

There’s something so charming about these kate spade flats. They look like little gifts for your feet. I think they’d look cute paired with some jeans, a white tee, and a bright pink jacket. Or, a chic sheath dress. So cute.

3.2.1.0... My very first post!

Welcome to GIRL WITH THE RED SOLE! I read other blogs and love them, so I thought I’d get in the game. I am so excited to share all of the things that I find inspiring! I am also very interested in what y’all (yes, I’m from Dallas) have to say. So please leave comments and feel free to follow me.

Briefly: About a year ago, I moved back to my home town near Dallas, Texas. I relocated from Los Angeles, California where I attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. [I miss L.A. like crazy!] I also lived in New York for a summer while I attended Parsons School of Design. I love these three places so very much.

I love: fashion, personal style, architecture, interior design, diy, art, food, magazines, books, my life… all of which will end up on my blog at some point or another.

I'll leave you with a haiku I wrote in high school...

Have a lovely day!
